What’s included in our fire door inspection? survey?

Our fully qualified and NAFDI-registered inspectors conduct thorough fire door surveys, meticulously assessing every fire door on-site to ensure safety, compliance, and effectiveness.
Our inspections encompass both non-intrusive and, upon request, intrusive evaluations. Every fire door survey is complemented by a detailed report covering the condition of the entire doorset.
The report provides a clear assessment of the current state and adequacy of the fire door sets. Where necessary, it includes tailored recommendations to bring your buildings into compliance with statutory requirements, align with best practice guidelines, or support specific business requirements.

A Non-intrusive Survey comprising:

  • a comprehensive visual inspection of each fire resisting doorset including:
  • the fire resisting qualities of the fire door hinges and all door hardware
  • the condition, fitting, and operation of the hinges and hardware
  • a review of fire door signage
  • a check of the condition and operation of any hold open devices
  • a check of the fire door closing devices and their ability to effectively close the doorsets
  • a check for relevant markings, for example from the British Woodworking Federation to identify the fire rating of the doorset
  • an inspection of the locks and latches to ensure they are operational
  • an inspection of any vision panels, glazing, and review of their suitability
  • an inspection of the cold smoke seals
  • an inspection of the intumescent strips
  • an assessment on the fire resisting qualities of the doorset, including its thickness
  • a review of the gaps between the leaf and frame – including the threshold for suitability
  • a visual inspection of the fire door frame
  • a visual inspection of the door leaf
  • a review of the materials used in the installation of the doorset
  • a clear action plan which outlines the locations of defects, photographic evidence, and suggested remedial actions.
Intrusive inspections are available upon request and can be essential in specific circumstances. While not always necessary, they provide a comprehensive evaluation of fire door performance and ensure compliance with stringent safety standards.
Please note that intrusive inspections are more detailed and thorough, requiring additional time and resources. As such, there are additional costs.

An Intrusive Survey comprising:

  • An Intrusive survey includes all of the elements of the non-intrusive inspection, in addition to the following:
  • In-depth examination of the the leaf and frame, involving the removal of architraves, allowing for a closer inspection of critical components and installation method. This ensures a thorough assessment of hidden issues that may not be apparent during a standard inspection.
  • Precise measurement of failed doors to identify structural opening size requirements. This information is crucial for planning and implementing corrective actions to bring the doors into compliance.
